The Night We Went To The Dogs

A visit to the greyhound racing at Belle Vue on 1st March proved to be one of our more popular events we have organised recently. It may have had something to do with the FREE entry, FREE food and FREE alcohol!

We all arrived at the track early after walking through the disinfectant straw mats to stop us all spreading foot and mouth to the dogs to attack the free bar and buffet before the racing and obligatory betting started at around half past seven.

The night consisted of thirteen different races including flat and jump races with dogs with strange names like 'I'm Buzzin' , 'Rubbish Bob' , 'Yip Yap Stam' and 'Nickynacky Noo'. Bets were being placed with increasing frequency during the evening with people trying to win back the shirts they had lost earlier in the evening. The bar was drunk dry (again!!) as the night progressed with nobody managing to win their fortune although some people I believe did actually go home with more money than they arrived with although this was definitely the exception.

The night finished off with punters trying to win their fortune on the five leg jackpot which could have won the lucky punter nearly £3,500 but instead just added to the pile of torn and discarded betting slips that littered the tables by the end of the night.
